Introduction

If you're looking for Colorado hikes and information on how to plan and carry them out safely and competently,  you're in the right place.

Hikes can be mini adventures that let you take a break from your normal routine without the time and expense involved in "vacations".  You can see new things, have new experiences and if you want - challenge yourself physically. Living in Colorado means you have an abundance of world class hikes relatively nearby. In this website, you will find many hikes described with maps, directions, general information, photos, hike length, difficulty ratings and global positioning system (GPS) data. New hikes will be added over time, and your suggestions are welcome.

Hiking is like any other activity. To get the most out of it and to have the most fun,  there are some things you need to know. Safety comes first - which includes having the right kind of clothes and equipment. Preparation, comfort, ethics and how to deal with an emergency are all important topics that we discuss in the links below . GPS is a new topic to many people and I think the discussion here is hard to beat in terms of a practical introduction for hikers and other outdoors people.

The "Ten Essentials" are a listing of items that are commonly required for safe outings into wilderness areas. You can learn a lot about hiking by learning what these items are and what they do. Especially if you are new to hiking, be sure to get into the expanded discussion of them. Below are the links for all the main hiking topics that you can jump to on this site. By the way, suggestions and criticisms of the information on the website are welcome - we strive to improve.

--- Hope you enjoy the website.
