Major Ski resort locations linked to their homepages.
Colorado has some of the best downhill skiing in the world.
The map below shows the western part of the state and its major ski resorts (red dots). Also shown are the major cities and road systems. Depending on your browser, if you place your cursor over a dot, the web URL will show up below your browser with the resort's name.
You can click the dots and access the various ski resort's websites to get info on skiing conditions, lodging, prices, etc., and access any webcams they have up.
Some of the ski resorts (red dots) and Pikes Peak (blue dot) have web cam links on their webpages showing their mountain. During ski season this is handy in order to see the extent of snow cover and what current visibility is like (which is also relevant to driving conditions).
Outside of ski season, some of the resorts keep their web cams running. Pikes Peak also has a cam trained on its east side (but there is no ski resort there). This is a smart way to check on hiking conditions. Snow is fine for skiing, but snow covered trails can end a hike way too soon.
Through the links on the map below, you can check various webpages to see how much snow the web cams are showing. That might tell you whether its practical to schedule a hike in the general area.
During the summer, some of the ski resorts use their lifts to run people and their mountain bikes up to the top. It's a lot of fun to cruise downhill on a bike over terrain you've skied a lot and only seen in the winter.
